It’s Plymouth’s Annual Play Day on Wednesday and I’ll be there with the libraries gang from 11am until 3pm. Once again we’ll be in our gazebo with lots of Team Read activities.
This year we will be playing host to the National Year of Reading’s Telling Tales competition from 12 until 1.30pm.
It’s the search for the nation’s best storyteller as Plymouth National Year of Reading Coordinator, Sue Bonin explains.’ To take part, you just have to read aloud from a favourite children’s story for a couple of minutes, presenting the story as creatively and expressively as you can. You’ll be seated in the Storytelling Chair and filmed as you read. Bring a story with you, or choose from books available on the day.’
One winner from each region will receive a library of books provided by Harper Collins publishers. The overall winner will receive a family ticket to the UK premiere of Walt Disney Pictures film Bedtime Stories which will be released in December.
We hope the weather holds up as there’s always lots of fun things to do at Play Day!
If it’s really wet the storytelling chair will move to the museum’s Fish, Ships and Wonderful Wildlife activity in the Guildhall.
