Book review – Monkey and Me by Emily Gravett

This will be a hit with cheeky monkeys everywhere.

Emily Gravett won the 2008 Kate Greenaway medal last month for Little Mouse’s Big of Fears. Monkey and Me was also nominated in the same category which just goes to show what an exceptional new talent Gravett is.

Although the book has an extremely simple repetitive text,  the beautifully conceived illustrations of elephants, bats, kangaroos and monkeys will keep even the youngest children eager to turn the next page. Lots of delicate detail will repay continued readings to the inevitable pleas of “Again!”.

  1. Great first choice, a good one to read to small relatives with enquiring minds.

I’ve just fallen in love with Mini Grey’s ‘Adventures of Dish and Spoon.’ Bit old for the BookStart market, though they might enjoy the pictures.
