Many library folk and other keen readers from the Council (including the Lord Mayor!) took part in Tales from the City, a special event organised by Children’s Services for the National Year of Reading.
Over 40 primary school classes visited 24 different venues to hear stories in a range of fantastic venues; The Snow Queen was heard on the ice of the Pavilion’s Rink, Pizza Express read tales from Italy and made pizzas with the children, whilst the Theatre Royal welcomed children behind the scenes the Plymouth Herald gave a tour of their offices and of course there was The Lighthouse keeper’s Lunch at Smeaton’s Tower.
Bookstart Coordinator Sue Mills was made very welcome at Platters fish restaurant on the Barbican. The chefs showed children from Pilgrim primary school freshly caught fish then cooked it for them all to eat (with chips!) as Sue read Tiddler’s Tale and the Rainbow Fish.
Here I am taking a break with my friend the Tiger at Starbucks in Armada Way. What a fantastic day in the National Year of Reading!
